Cailin Blanchard
Cailin Blanchard has been a student of Herbal Medicine for almost 15 years. Originally, she is from the traditional territory of the Niiitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), Treaty 7, or Calgary, Alberta, and began her learning with the wild plants of the Rocky Mountains, foothills and the prairies there. Most of her learning has been self-directed through gaining knowledge from other accomplished herbalists, through an abundance of books and online content, apprenticeships, farming, growing her own plants, as well as harvesting and making her own medicine. Her formal training has consisted of completing the Practical Herbalist Diploma through Wild Rose College, as well as 500 clinical hours and mentorship with various herbalists. Over the years, she has taught multiple workshops about foraging, cooking with wild foods, growing and harvesting medicinal herbs, medicine making, and more.
Cailin has completed a Shamanic Apprenticeship and continues to work with shamanic practice in her own life, has her 400 Hour Yoga Teacher training, and carries her Level 1 Reiki Certification. She desires to incorporate spiritual and intuitive healing into her herbal medicine practice as it grows.
First and foremost, she believes that the deepest transformation comes directly from the plants, as well as connection with the land, Spirit, and our inner creativity. Cailin is very grateful to live, work, and learn on the unceded traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples, also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt peoples, as well as the territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, and surrounding communities. In working with the living plants on the land, she often reflects on the people who have lived on Turtle Island since time immemorial and have stewarded these lands to help them thrive into their most beautiful. She acknowledges the colonial histories of Herbal Medicine in North America and that Indigenous peoples have generously shared much knowledge with the colonizers, creating the foundation of our knowledge base for native medicinal plants here in Canada.
